AWP expresses grief over the tragic killing of Lala Latif


Karachi: The Awami Workers Party (AWP) expresses deep sorrow and grief over the tragic murder of Lala Latif Afridi, a veteran progressive politician and former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association. 

“The AWP leadership condemns the gruesome murder of Latif Lala in the strongest possible terms and expresses sympathy with the bereaved family members and the National Democratic Movement leadership.”

The AWP president Akhtar Hussain Advocate in a condolence message described the killing of  the veteran lawyer and politician as a huge loss not only to his party but also to all democratic, progressive, and secular forces of Pakistan. He said the slain lawyer was a staunch supporter of democracy. 

He described the killing of the senior lawyer in firing inside the Peshawar High Court (PHC) Bar room on Monday as a condemnable act and a security lapse.

Latif  Afridi was a stalwart of the progressive movement and a staunch supporter of democracy who remained steadfast against dictators who fought for the rights of the oppressed nations and suffered during military dictators since his student life in the late 50s, AWP President Akhtar Hussain said.

He was against the outdated and retrogressive tribal system. He believed in humanity and fought for his ideals till the last.
